It's obvious that I am a little late off the mark for the start of this seasons coverage especially as were at the October International break so I'll round up all of the goings on to get us up to date.
After a solid preseason tour of the US which ended with the red devils being the first Premier League team to beat the MLS All-Stars in normal time (and what convincing fashion it was achieved in) and a goal rout against the League of Ireland XI it was time for annual curtain raiser of the season which gave us a satisfying 3 - 1 victory over Chelsea and the first piece of silverware for the season!
The kick off to the league has been a mixed bag so far... solid 3 - 0 wins against Newcastle and West Ham along with a satisfying 3 -2 defeat of Liverpool has given United a 100% start at Old Trafford but our away record isn't so good with 4 draws from 4 games where in seasons gone by it has been strong performances on the road as well as at home that has lead to the title at the end of the season.
Away Days
Now although we have yet to gain a win away from Old Trafford it's not all doom and gloom as we are yet to lose a game, although if we continue to ship goals like we have in the first couple of games then we could end up giving the title away.
Giving away convincing leads is not what were used to as fans but I'm sure we will sort things out at the back, we did after all keep consecutive clean sheets for 14 games with the same back line.
Everton was a kick to the teeth but we lapsed and as with Fulham, Bolton and Sunderland they all played well and all four are teams that are expected to do well in the league. You can look at the Fulham game and say Nani should have scored his penalty but in all fairness it wasn't really a penalty in the first place.
We have at least one good away result to cheer about so far and that is the hard earned win in the Metstalla stadium against Valencia with Chicharito scoring our first Champions League goal of the season. This result was only the second away victory against Spanish opposition for the club which should set us up for a good run in the competition, hopefully ending in Wembley stadium!
Drawing a Comparison
Looking back to last season there are even more positives to draw on; we lost to Fulham and Everton away from home and with the competitiveness of the league growing not to have lost a game so far this season is pretty good going with Fulham being the only other team to match this. We did beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last season but we were one of the only teams to do so and judging by the performance on Saturday we were lucky to scalp a point out of a game where we were outplayed for long periods.
Next up after the International games is West Brom at Old Trafford. Although they have the manager and player of the month this is definitely a game that we should win, with added pressure of the Chelsea pulling away at the top of the table and Man City also ahead of us it's make or break time for the season.
